At just 19 years of age, Josh Cunningham has a lot to be proud of. A third year carpentry apprentice living and working in Ararat, he has already bought a house and plans to pay it off within three or four years’ time. And that, says Josh, is what living in Ararat enables young people to do.
“I wouldn’t have become a builder if I didn’t move to Ararat. There are lots of job opportunities here.”
Josh’s family moved to Ararat five years ago and Josh completed a work placement through secondary school. This in turn led to the carpentry apprenticeship he is studiously making his way through.
When he is not at work, the young tradesman has built up a healthy social life, largely through his involvement with the Ararat football and golf clubs.
“I’d say to other young people just get into sports clubs and have a social life because the people are really nice. Once you get to know everyone it’s really easy to live here.”
