Health Services

State-of-the-art medical facilities, a range of complementary alternative therapies, day spa treatment options, a relaxed lifestyle and all the fresh air you could wish for are a happy combination in Ararat!

Community Indicators Victoria data shows Ararat and district residents enjoy a healthier, happier and more relaxed lifestyle in general. This can be attributed in part to the strong sense of community the district’s residents enjoy. A 2007 survey showed Ararat residents truly do feel a part of their community. Ararat scored 76.6 on a national scale. The Australia-wide average was just 70. This reiterates the findings of a 2006 survey which showed 96.9 per cent of people living in Ararat felt they could get help from friends, family or neighbours when it was needed.

Medical services

Ararat is well served by a full complement of state-of-the-art medical facilities. Its 35-bed hospital was re-energised in late 2004 after a sweeping $8.4 million redevelopment. The new-look hospital includes a birthing suite and labour delivery room, accident and emergency, dialysis treatment facilities, operating theatre, day procedure centre and palliative care services.

The hospital and its adjacent 40-bed nursing home is visited regularly by orthopeadic, ENT, opthalmic and general surgeons. Resident primary health services include dentistry, dietetics, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech pathology, podiatry, social work, community support and nursing services. The hospital also supports an Oncology Unit.
